  • First Dental Appointment in Wood Green: A New Patient Guide

Looking for a new dentist in Wood Green or Bounds Green? Bounds Green Dental & Implants explains how to register, what you’ll be asked, what your first check-up involves and how to get to us by Tube or bus.

    📍 65 Bounds Green Road, Wood Green N22 8HB | 🚇 5 Minutes from Wood Green Station | 📞 020 8888 0881

Joining a new dental practice involves more than the check-up itself. In practice, it’s a series of short conversations: with whoever takes your booking, with reception, with your dentist, about money, and about what comes next. Knowing what to expect in each makes the whole thing easier. Here’s how it works at Bounds Green Dental & Implants on Bounds Green Road, Wood Green.

Short answer: Your first appointment is a full dental examination. We’ll go through your health and concerns, check your teeth, gums and mouth, take X-rays only if they’re clinically necessary, explain what we find and agree a plan with you.

    Conversation 1: Booking

You can register using the “Register as New Patient” form on our private dentist page, or call 020 8888 0881. We’ll ask you:

    • Whether you’d like NHS or private care (you don’t need to decide in advance, as we’ll help)
    • Whether you have any pain or a problem that needs seeing quickly
    • Whether you’re nervous about dental visits

Worth asking us: “Are NHS places currently available?” and “How long should I allow for the first appointment?”

Conversation 2: Getting Here and Arriving

Bounds Green Dental & Implants is at 65 Bounds Green Road, on the corner of Park Avenue, about five minutes’ walk from Wood Green station on the Piccadilly line. The 221 bus also serves the area.

Please note that there’s no parking at the practice, and local roads have restrictions from 11am to 4pm, so public transport is usually the easiest option. If you’re driving, check the signs carefully.

We’re open Monday to Wednesday, 9am to 5pm, and Thursday and Friday, 9am to 5:30pm. It helps to arrive a few minutes early to complete any forms. Bring:

    • Your medical history and any medication
    • Previous dental records or X-rays, if you have them
    • A note of anything that’s worrying you
    • Proof of NHS exemption, if you’re claiming free treatment
    • A way to pay, for private treatment

    Conversation 3: With Your Dentist

This is the appointment itself. The dentist will talk through your history and then carry out the examination:

    • Your medical and dental history, medication and habits
    • Your teeth and soft tissues, checking for decay, wear and anything else that needs attention
    • Your gums, as gum disease is easiest to treat early (see our gum disease page)
    • Mouth cancer screening, a routine, painless check
    • Your bite and jaw joints, including signs of TMJ problems
    • X-rays, only if clinically necessary

Then comes the explanation: what we’ve found, what needs attention, what can wait, and your options.

Questions to ask: “What’s most urgent?”, “What are my options?” and “What will it cost?”

    Conversation 4: About Money

NHS care is offered to patients who qualify. It covers examinations, X-rays, fillings, extractions, crowns and dentures, with sedation for suitable patients, charged under the NHS’s standard bands. NHS fees change each April, so please ask us for current figures. See our NHS treatment page.

Private care covers more, including cosmetic treatment, Invisalign, implants and hygiene visits. A private extensive examination, including an X-ray, is currently £70, with full prices on our fees page. For private treatment, you’ll have a consultation, the checks needed, and a tailored treatment plan to take home, with no obligation to go ahead.

Mixing the two. You can have some treatments privately and others on the NHS, but NHS and private care can’t be combined within a single course of treatment.

Spreading the cost. We offer payment plans, and a monthly subscription plan starting from £25 a month, covering check-ups and hygiene appointments among other benefits. Ask us for the current details, and we’ll always confirm costs before treatment begins.

    Conversation 5: What Happens Next

    • If you need treatment, we’ll explain it and agree a plan with you.
    • If everything looks healthy, check-ups are generally recommended every six months, though your dentist may suggest a different interval based on your oral health, age and risk factors.
    • If a hygiene visit would help, we’ll tell you (see hygiene appointments).
    • If you’d like to talk about your smile, we can discuss Invisalign, whitening, bonding or veneers.

Nervous, or Not Been for Years?

You’re not alone, and we won’t judge. Tell us when you book, and we’ll go at your pace. We offer sedation options and relaxation techniques, and your first visit is about finding out where things stand and making a plan that suits you.

    Urgent Problems

If you’re in pain or have broken a tooth, tell us when you call, and we’ll aim to see you as soon as we can. If you have spreading facial swelling, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or feel very unwell, seek urgent medical help through NHS 111 or 999.
